Charak Puja as Penance and Austerity ll तपस्या और संयम के रूप में चरक पूजा

 

Penance and austerity is a part of every region and religion in India. Amongst Hindus in West Bengal it so happens to be Charak Puja. 

Charak puja marks the end of bengali calendar on Chaitra sankranti. It is held in the honour of Lord Shiva, Ma Kali and Dharmathakur ( local diety protecting that particular village or locality). 

This festival includes various forms of penance like walking on hot coal, body piercing and hook swinging from an auspicious tree. 

The preparation starts a month early. Mostly Tribal people perform the penance and wander from village to village gathering necessities like paddy, oil, sugar, salt, honey, money and other things. 

It signifies renewal, forgiveness and agricultural prosperity. 

The tribal folk performing the ritual dress up as Ma Kali and Lord Shiva. A mela also sets up surrounding the area of the puja. 

Folks performing the puja set up tents near the puja area and have been seen lathering mustard oil and bathing in near by rivers or ponds. 

To mark the end of penance of chaitra sankrati is the chaitra sale, where every bengali household is required to buy an apparel of clothing for every member.

प्रायश्चित और तपस्या भारत के हर क्षेत्र और धर्म का एक अभिन्न हिस्सा है। हिंदुओं में, विशेष रूप से पश्चिम बंगाल में, यह "चरक पूजा" के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

चरक पूजा बंगाली कैलेंडर के अंतिम दिन यानी चैत्र संक्रांति को मनाई जाती है। यह पूजा भगवान शिव, मां काली और धर्मठाकुर (जो किसी विशेष गांव या इलाके के रक्षक लोकदेवता माने जाते हैं) के सम्मान में की जाती है।

इस त्योहार में विभिन्न प्रकार की तपस्याएं शामिल होती हैं, जैसे – जलते अंगारों पर चलना, शरीर को चीरना, और एक पवित्र वृक्ष से झूलते हुए कांटों पर लटकना।

इसकी तैयारी एक महीने पहले शुरू हो जाती है। अधिकतर आदिवासी लोग यह तपस्या करते हैं और गांव-गांव घूमकर चावल, तेल, चीनी, नमक, शहद, पैसे और अन्य आवश्यक वस्तुएं एकत्र करते हैं।

यह पर्व नवीनीकरण, क्षमा और कृषि समृद्धि का प्रतीक माना जाता है।

इस पूजा में भाग लेने वाले आदिवासी लोग मां काली और भगवान शिव का वेश धारण करते हैं। पूजा स्थल के आसपास एक मेला भी लगता है।

पूजा करने वाले लोग पूजा स्थल के पास तंबू लगाकर रहते हैं और उन्हें सरसों का तेल लगाते हुए और पास की नदी या तालाब में स्नान करते हुए देखा जा सकता है।

चैत्र संक्रांति पर तपस्या की समाप्ति का प्रतीक होता है “चैत्र सेल” (चैत्र बिक्री), जिसमें प्रत्येक बंगाली घर को परिवार के हर सदस्य के लिए नया कपड़ा खरीदना अनिवार्य 

माना जाता है।
